Wechsler intelligence test is a series of tests to evaluate the intellectual as well as cognitive ability of a child or adult. There are mainly 3 kinds of scales used for the evaluation namely regular, third edition and revised versions. The major purposes of the Wechsler test are to track the intellectual development, learning disability and many more emotional issues. Apart from the 3 scales, Wechsler preschool and primary scales of intelligence are used for analyzing the abilities.
Some other issues that are measured using the test are organic deficits, vocational ability etc. Also, functioning of brain can be analyzed accurately and determine how far a person is psychologically healthy. The test is done under the supervision of a trained professional in the same field or by an experience or expert psychiatrist.
The whole test duration is about 60 to 90 minutes within the time in which 6 verbal and 5 performance sub tests are included. Based on the result of tests, the IQ scores are calculated and finally the personality is interpreted by an expert based on the IQ score.
The latest version of Wechsler intelligence test scale is known as WAIS-R. This version is mainly used for the analysis of adults in the age group of 16-74. The commonly included subtests checks the ability of a person in the field of digit span, arithmetic, information, similarities, vocabulary, block design, digit symbol, comprehension, object assembly, picture arrangement and picture completion.
WISC-III is another version of the test scale in which two additional performance tests namely, mazes and symbol search are included. WPPSI is an intelligence test scale that was designed exclusively for the children between 4 and 7 years. This is a standardized testing scheme in which the score attained by a person or child is compared and interpreted with a standard pre-determined value.
